Rebellion (Novelization) - Part 7“Good thing it wasn’t stolen” Nathan said. “It wouldn’t of been easy getting one of these gas cars working”.
Mitchell continued his silence.
Nathan paused. “Do you want to talk about it?” he asked.
“No. I just-“ Mitchell paused and continued his silence.
Mitchell unlocked the car and entered the driver’s seat. Nathan sighed before getting into the car with Mitchell. Mitchell started the car and reversed out of the garage, beginning the long drive back to Virginia.
CHAPTER FIVE – SCARS AND DESPERATION
Mitchell and Nathan drove their futuristic war vehicle up a road on the Appalachian mountain range. The journey home had taken over two weeks, but they had finally made it.
On the horizon, the Rebellion base was visible. The base on the surface was a large, tech-heavy, metal dome like structure surrounded by a large metal wall, protecting the base and a large entrance gate to allow people in and out.
The two men

Mitchell smiled as he led Nathan and Adam through the wastelands. “Great work guys!” Mitchell exclaimed.
“Are we heading back now?” Nathan enquired.
Mitchell nodded. “Yeah. We did it. We just established our first outpost in western America”.
Adam chuckled. “Long drive home though”.
Mitchell smiled. “Best get moving then”.
A bandit sprang out of a nearby alleyway, grabbing Adam and holding a machete to his neck. Mitchell and Nathan turned. The two readied their weapons but before they could fire, the bandit had already slit the throat of their friend. The lights left Adam’s eyes as his corpse dropped to the floor. Nathan fired a bullet from his assault rifle straight through the bandit’s head.
Nathan couldn’t help but notice that the bandit has not a look of aggression, but rather a look of intense fear on his face.
“Adam!” Mitchell screamed in shock and horror.
Rebellion (Novelization) - Part 5Just moments later, Nathan raised his hand signaling for the others to stop. “There it is!” he exclaimed.
Mitchell opened up Nathan’s backpack, grabbing a pair of binoculars. Mitchell peered through them, scoping out Catalic Lake for anything of interest.
Through his binoculars Mitchell saw a small camp of survivors setup besides the lake. Approximately 30 people. It looks as if they’d recently suffered from some sort of attack. Their camp was somewhat damaged and there were several dead bodies piled up not too far from their tents. There were visible wounded survivors in the camp. The camp consisted of several camouflaged tents, a campfire and a barb wire fence. Several of the survivors appeared to be equipped with melee weapons. One man held an axe. Several other survivors held bats and knives.
“What do you see?” Nathan asked.
“Survivors” Mitchell responded as he handed over the binoculars to Adam.
Adam peered through the binoculars at
Rebellion (Novelization) - Part 4“I don’t blame you” Mitchell replied. “This place is weird and unnerving”.
“I know” Adam said in agreement. “There’s barely anyone out here. That’s so strange”.
Mitchell nodded. “I just can’t wait to be back home”.
“Same here” replied Adam.
Mitchell was silent for several seconds. “We’ve never come out this far before”. Mitchell paused again. “I feel so far from safety”.
“I know what you mean” Adam replied.
“I wonder how the others are doing” Mitchell murmured.
“The others?” asked Adam in confusion.
“The other Rebellion bases: South-America, Australia, Africa, Britain, Europe, Asia”.
“Oh right” Adam replied. “I’m sure they’re doing fine”.
Mitchell remained silent for a while as he pondered whether to tell Adam. Mitchell turned to Adam.
“Don’t tell anyone this, but we
Rebellion (Novelization) - Part 3Nathan approached the corpse of the suicide victim. The stench of the rotting flesh was overwhelming.
“Aww geez” Nathan said in disgust.
“That bandit must have been a cannibal” Mitchell stated as he watched Nathan slowly back away from the rotting corpse.
Adam turned to Nathan. “You gotta do what you gotta do. Wastelands are tough”. He turned to Mitchell. “Heck, if it weren't for you Mitchell, I'd still be out there”.
“I still owe you one Adam” Mitchell replied.
Adam smiled at Mitchell. “No man. We’re even”.
CHAPTER TWO – A SENSE OF DANGER
A dim light flickered from a lantern, piercing through the darkness of the night. Mitchell, Adam and Nathan sat around the dim flame and made conversation, taking shelter atop of the scraper they’d entered earlier while sharing a tin of beans.
“Do we really need the barricade?” Nathan enquired. “This city isn’t like the others. It&
Rebellion (Novelization) - Part 2Mitchell looked over anxiously at the closest skyscraper. He pointed at it. “In there. I’ll scope it out, you guys keep guard outside”.
Nathan and Adam nodded. Mitchell sprinted up the set of stairs to the door. The door was made of glass, smashed and cracked leaving the entrance exposed. Mitchell took a step into the building, entering the main lobby.
The lobby was trashed with furniture positioned haphazardly and glass shards and fragments shattered all over the floor. The riots had clearly been fairly harsh to this building.
Mitchell looked around, checking his surroundings to ensure the building was abandoned and hospitable. There was silence. No hostiles were visible.
Mitchell took several steps forward, pressing deeper into the structure. He stepped on several glass fragments on the ground which cracked beneath his feet making a harsh sound. The sound of the cracking glass startled Mitchell. He froze in place.
A rustling of paper and other such objects suddenly
